The first results are in for the evaluation of scientific activity quality for 2022-2025. With three top A+ categories and an A category for a fourth discipline, PK Krakow University of Technology once again ranks among Poland’s leading research institutions. “This result shows we’re on the right track, setting ourselves ambitious goals. We’re building a university we can be proud of. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this success,” says PK KUT Rector Prof. Andrzej Szarata, commenting on the first evaluation decisions.

In the 2022-2025 evaluation, Poland’s Minister of Science and Higher Education awarded 1,241 scientific categories to 280 universities and research institutes. The decisions were based on a thorough assessment conducted by the Committee for the Evaluation of Science, using categories the Committee proposed. The evaluation – conducted once every four years – is aimed at providing an objective, equal-criteria assessment of the quality of scientific activity at Polish institutions. PK Krakow University of Technology submitted its research activity for evaluation across 8 scientific disciplines, reflecting the research focus of staff across the university’s 8 faculties. All disciplines received high ratings, securing full academic rights – including the right to award doctoral and postdoctoral (habilitation) degrees and to independently run degree programmes at our Doctoral School.

Top A+ category awarded to three disciplines

The following disciplines received an A+ rating, the highest possible score in the evaluation:

➡️ Architecture and Urban Planning
➡️ Civil Engineering, Geodesy and Transport
➡️ Mechanical Engineering

The A+ category is awarded to leading institutions with the highest quality of research and achievements comparable to the best European scientific institutions. This rating goes to select units that meet the requirements of category A and, based on a separate expert assessment, stand out due to an exceptionally high level of scientific activity. The research activity behind these A+-rated disciplines is concentrated at CUT’s Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Civil Engineering, and Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. For years, these faculties have been building their position among leading research centres in their fields in Poland and abroad.

Strong results across the board

Chemical Engineering – associated primarily with the research activity of staff at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, received a very good A rating. High B+ categories were awarded to: Automation, Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Space Technologies (Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering); Technical Computer Science and Telecommunications (Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics); Materials Engineering (Faculty of Materials Engineering and Physics); and Environmental Engineering, Mining and Power Engineering (Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Energy).

Confirming CUT’s research strength

These evaluation results once again place PK KUT among Poland’s strongest research universities. They confirm the quality of research carried out by our scientists, as well as its real impact on the development of society and the economy. The main criteria considered in the 2022-2025 evaluation included: the scientific level of the activity conducted, the financial outcomes of research and development work, and the impact of scientific activity on the functioning of society and the economy.

“I would like to thank the entire PK Krakow University of Technology community for their contribution to this success. Behind it lies immense work, talent, research perseverance, and commitment from our scientists, doctoral students, administrative teams, and everyone who supports scientific activity at our university,” underlines Rector Prof. Andrzej Szarata.

“I extend special congratulations to the communities of the faculties representing the disciplines that received A+ and A categories. Such a prestigious assessment is the result of many years of systematic scientific effort, cooperation with partners in Poland and abroad, and successfully linking research with the needs of the economy and society. The obtained result is a source of pride and satisfaction for PK KUT. It shows that we are on the right path, setting ourselves ambitious goals“.

Looking ahead: Research University status

Among the ambitious challenges CUT has taken on, thanks to the consistent implementation of its research development strategy and strong evaluation results, is its application to the second edition of the Excellence Initiative – Research University competition. CUT submitted its application in June 2026. The university earned the right to participate in the competition based on its strong evaluation results for 2017-2021 as well. “Taking part in the Excellence Initiative – Research University competition marks an important stage in our university’s development. It confirms our ambitions to strengthen research quality, internationalization, the development of academic staff, and the research recognition of PK KUT in Poland and abroad,” notes the Rector.
