Gabriela Kęsek, a PhD student at the Doctoral School of PK Krakow University of Technology, has started a research internship at the Advanced Institute for Materials Research (AIMR), Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan. During her stay, she will continue her research on nanomaterials for photocatalytic applications under the supervision of Dr. Xiao Zhang.

Her work focuses on carbon nitride-based materials and their modification with semiconductor nanostructures to improve performance under visible light, with potential applications in environmental purification and energy conversion. The internship will allow her to develop new skills, exchange ideas with an international research community and build connections for future collaboration.

The stay is supported and funded by the Doctoral School of PK Krakow University of Technology through the InterDoctus SD PK programme. Gabriela’s PhD supervisor is Prof. Katarzyna Matras-Postolek.

The internship in Japan follows Gabriela’s earlier international experiences, including the Blended Intensive Programme at University West in Sweden and a symposium for graduate students at Tianjin Chengjian University in China, where she received an Excellent Report Award.
