PK KUT Unveils Its First Mural

To mark its 80th anniversary, PK Krakow University of Technology has unveiled the first mural in the university’s history. The artwork covers a wall of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Energy on the main campus in the city centre, and is visible from several directions. Designed by Kraków-based artist Marcin Wierzchowski, the mural depicts the university’s patron, Tadeusz Kościuszko, in the style of a technical drawing, in blue on a white background. A “title block” in the lower left corner, a classic element of engineering drawings, carries the anniversary details.
The design was chosen from 52 entries in an open competition. The jury was chaired by Rector Prof. Andrzej Szarata and included representatives of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, the Cogiteon Małopolska Science Centre, the City of Kraków and the arts community.
“Many of our anniversary events were fleeting. The mural will commemorate the anniversary permanently,” said Rector Szarata. The site sits next to one of Kraków’s main transport hubs, so thousands of people will see it every day.
The official unveiling took place on 20 October 2025, with the ribbon cut by the Rector.
