Assistant for Students on the Autism Spectrum
At PK Krakow University of Technology, we offer individual assistant support to students and doctoral candidates with special needs. Assistance is always tailored to the specific needs of the individual – the assistant does not do the student’s work for them, but helps them independently cope with the challenges of studying.
If you are a student or doctoral candidate on the autism spectrum and require support in your daily functioning at the university, you may contact us. Together, we will determine what you need and in which areas we can assist you – this may include, among other things, study organization, handling formal matters, contact with lecturers and other students, or navigating new situations.
We are developing the “Assistant Incubator” – a network of individuals who will support neurodivergent students and work towards a more accessible and friendly university. The Incubator operates under the PK Accessibility Centre.
You do not need prior experience. We provide preparation and training on neurodiversity and the role of an assistant. The most important qualities are empathy, openness, respect, communication skills, and a readiness to help. An assistant is primarily a trusted person who helps the student better navigate academic life and supports them in independently overcoming difficulties.
Volunteer assistants will receive volunteer certificates.
Persons interested in volunteering are kindly requested to contact: agnieszka.lapczuk@pk.edu.pl
