A Green Plan for the University
PK Krakow University of Technology has been implementing the concept of the so-called “Green Plan for PK KUT” for several years. It concerns, among other things, revitalization and pro-ecological actions on the grounds of all university campuses – at Warszawska Street, at Podchorążych Street, and the Czyżyny campus in Kraków.
In Łobzów, at Podchorążych Street, we want, together with the Municipality of Kraków, to create a publicly accessible park-garden on land owned by the university, referring to the historical identity of Łobzów and its royal gardens. The university offered to make its land available for the park, conducted and financed an architectural competition for its concept along with the preparation of the required documentation. A directional resolution in this matter, recommending to the mayor of the city further actions for the creation of a park in Łobzów, was adopted in February 2024 by the Kraków City Council.
Solutions undertaken by the university in the center of Kraków at Warszawska Street are intended to serve the implementation of the idea of “CUT Eco-Campus,” and concern, among other things, rainwater retention, new forms of greenery (flowering meadows, soil garden, green zones for students, green roofs), modernization of lighting, increasing the number of bicycle shelters, monitoring concerning carbon footprint and air quality, energy consumption and increasing the acquisition of so-called green energy, etc.
Politechnika 2100 is a long-term development concept for the CUT campus in Czyżyny – in a perspective of 20, 50, and even 100 years. Its premise is to reconcile the development of the university with the preservation of the green and unique character of Czyżyny. The campus is to simultaneously provide a place for modern teaching, laboratories, and research, and remain an open, green space for students, employees, and residents of Kraków. The concept is based on a precisely recognized, real historical and natural value of this space.
Sustainable Development Strategy for the Campuses of PK Krakow University of Technology for the years 2026-2031
The document is a response to contemporary climate challenges and focuses on four pillars: environmental protection, support for the academic community, innovative scientific research, and modern education. Operational actions include, among other things, abandonment of the use of chemical plant protection products, abandonment of combustion devices for maintenance, monitoring of carbon footprint and air quality, and sustainable management of green waste.

PK Krakow University of Technology Apiary
An urban apiary operates on the PK Krakow University of Technology campus at Warszawska Street. Approximately 120,000 bees of the Krainka species live in three hives, which is characterized by gentleness and the ability to adapt quickly to the environment. They are therefore perfectly suited to life in an urban environment. The apiary is surrounded by a flowering meadow and trees, and wooden hives provide the bees with better air exchange and ventilation. Our bees support local biodiversity, while at the same time becoming part of university research.
The honey produced in the apiary is analyzed by scientists from the accredited PK KUT Trace Analysis Laboratory named after Adam Grochowalski, among other things, for the content of dioxins and PCBs. Determination of dioxins in honey can be a good indicator of air quality in the area. Thanks to this, the apiary is not only a place friendly to pollinators, but also an example of how the campus can be a space combining care for the environment with science and practical application of knowledge.
The University Apiary is cared for by Miasto Pszczół.
