Connecting Science and Industry: The 4th Polish–Taiwanese Technology Forum at PK Krakow University of Technology

On 16 October 2025, PK Krakow University of Technology hosted the 4th Polish–Taiwanese Technology Forum. The event brought together representatives of academia, industry, and research institutions from Poland and Taiwan – the world’s center of semiconductor production and a symbol of the innovative economy of the 21st century. Discussions focused on current development trends in power electronics, electromobility, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.

Polish–Taiwanese technological dialogue
The Forum was opened by the Vice-Rector for Education and International Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Katarzyna Bizon, PhD, Eng. In her opening remarks, she emphasized the importance of international academic cooperation, and highlighted the role of Kraków and the Małopolska region as a hub of technological and innovation-driven growth.
During the plenary session, the following speakers presented their papers:
- Jason Huang (Sentec) – The Critical Role of Power Modules in Advancing Next-Generation Applications
- Wang Yung Chen (KopherBit Co., Ltd.) – Next-generation mobility technologies – from concept to implementation: a new technical blueprint
After a coffee break and networking session, participants had the opportunity to see an electric racing car built by students of the PK Krakow University of Technology and presented on the main campus. The demonstration attracted great interest from guests from Taiwan as well as from representatives of Polish research institutions and technology companies. It was also an excellent opportunity to talk with members of the PK MechPower student project team.
The next plenary session featured the following presentations:
- Applications of IoT, Big Data, and AI – Prof. Tran Hoai Linh (School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Hanoi University of Science and Technology)
- Global Trends in Propulsion Technology Development for Light and Heavy-Duty Vehicles: E-Motors and Hybrids versus Fuel Cells – Assoc. Prof. Piotr Bielaczyc, DSc, Eng. (PK KUT, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, BOSMAL Sp. z o.o.)
- Recent Advances in Magnetorheological Fluid Applications – Prof. Janusz Gołdasz, DSc, Eng. (PK KUT, Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering)
- Our awareness and the impact of AI on the consumption of energy resources – Damian Grela, PhD, Eng. (PK KUT, Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering)

PK KUT technologies in the spotlight
After the plenary sessions, participants visited several laboratories of the PK Krakow University of Technology, exploring its advanced research infrastructure and ongoing projects. The visits included:
- Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering – including the el-RAPPRO student research group, specializing in 3D printing and electronic system design
- Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology – laboratories researching functional materials and processes supporting industrial innovation
- Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – the Educational Industry Line, implementing projects in automation and robotics
- Laboratory of Technoclimatic Testing and Working Machines – research on machinery and equipment under extreme climatic conditions
- Laboratory of Environmental Aerodynamics and Wind Engineering Laboratory – studies on the impact of wind, snow, and environmental factors on structures and machines
- Laboratory of Ultra-Precise Coordinate Measurements – equipped with world-class instrumentation for ultra-precise measurements from nano to large-scale, essential for advanced industrial technologies.

Collaboration and exchange of experience
In the evening, a formal dinner brought together representatives of all partner institutions, including the Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Industrial Technology Research Institute, and, naturally, our university. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen relationships, exchange experiences, and discuss future directions for joint research cooperation.
Dialogue between science and industry
The Forum continues the cooperation initiated in 2019 between Polish and Taiwanese research institutions. The Kraków meeting highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary dialogue in electromobility, biotechnology, renewable energy, and energy transition – all key areas of innovation and sustainable development.
The Forum was co-organized by the Institute of Mining Technology KOMAG, PK Krakow University of Technology, Silesian University of Technology, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST), and the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). The industrial partners included DUMAT Energy Sp. z o.o., SENTEC, Elsta Sp. z o.o.,
and OMAG Sp. z o.o.
