How to read the evaluation categories

Every four years, Polish universities undergo a national evaluation of research quality, conducted separately for each scientific discipline. The Minister of Science and Higher Education awards one of five categories: A+, A, B+, B or C, where A+ is the highest. Categories are assigned on the basis of equal, discipline-specific criteria, including the level of research, its impact on the economy and society, and the quality of doctoral education. All PK KUT disciplines hold category B or higher, which means they retain full academic rights, including the right to confer doctoral and habilitated doctor degrees.

In the evaluation for the years 2022-2025, the Minister of Science and Higher Education awarded 1,241 scientific categories to 280 universities and research institutes. This was done on the basis of a multi-aspect evaluation of their activities, conducted by the Evaluation of Science Committee and based on the categories proposed by it. It is precisely the objective – based on equal criteria – evaluation of the quality of scientific activity that is served by the evaluation conducted once every 4 years, to which universities and research institutes are subject.

PK Krakow University of Technology submitted for evaluation its scientific activity within the framework of 8 scientific disciplines on which the research activity of the staff of 8 faculties of the university is concentrated. For all disciplines, PK KUT obtained high evaluations, guaranteeing the retention of full academic rights (including the right to confer doctoral and habilitated doctor degrees, to conduct independent education at the level of studies and within the framework of the Doctoral School).
