On Wednesday, November 22, during the meeting of the Senate of the Cracow University of Technology, the Rector, Professor Andrzej Szarata, presented congratulatory letters to the University's researchers who were included in this year's edition of the prestigious TOP 2% ranking of the most cited scientists in the world. The ranking was compiled by analysts from Stanford University and the Elsevier publishing house.

The World's Top 2% Scientists 2023 ranking includes the names of 2% of the world's scientists whose publications are most frequently cited by other authors. The most recent lists were published at the beginning of October this year. The first takes into account the scientific output of researchers from the beginning of their scientific careers to the end of 2022, while the second takes into account their scientific achievements in 2022. Data from the Scopus database, provided by Elsevier Publishers via the ICSR Lab, was used to prepare the lists (John P. A. Ioannidis 2023), October 2023 data update for 'Updated science-wide author databases of standardised citation indicators', Elsevier Data Repository (V6, doi: 10.17632/btchxktzyw.6). Complex bibliometric criteria were taken into account, determined, among others, by indicators such as Hirsch (h-index) and Schreiber (hm-index) indices, total number of citations or citations taking into account the author's position among the co-authors of the publication.
