Logo HR Excellence in Research at the Cracow University of Technology:

European Commission decided to honour Cracow University of Technology with the award, thereby placing the University in the elite group of research institutions granted with a right to use the logotype. The University is entitled to use the HR logo to promote itself as a provider of a stimulating and favourable work environment.

Human Resources Excellence in Research Award is granted by European Commission to institutions that assure compliance with the principles laid down in European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.

European Commission set the abovementioned documents in order to harmonize recruitment and employment standards on European labour market for researchers. The aim of the requirements laid down by the Commission is to promote career development of researchers and foster successful performance in generating, transferring, sharing and disseminating knowledge and technological development.

European Charter for Researchers specifies responsibilities and entitlements of researchers as well as of employers or funders of researchers.

The Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers consists of a set of principles that should be followed by employers or founders when appointing or recruiting researchers.

In order to obtain this prestigious reward Cracow University of Technology has prepared The Human Resources Strategy. The Strategy defines actions to be taken by the University to comply with standards set in "Chard and Code". The document was analysed and evaluated by the panel of three independent assessors. On 4th of December 2017 the University was informed about positive results of the assessment. The awarded institutions are monitored by European Commission in order to ensure they continue to meet the C & C standards.

During the implementation phase which takes five years, on 31st of January 2020 CUT submitted the Internal Review report that indicates actions taken by the University, changes introduced in HR regulations and areas that still require improvement.

We are pleased to inform you that the European Commission evaluated the Internal review report from the process of the implementation The Human Resources Strategy at the CUT.

The assessors have concluded that the implementation of the Action Plan is ensured in a robust and systematic way. Our organisation is progressing with the implementation of appropriate and improved quality actions as described in its Action Plan. But we should still act in the field HR strategy to assured the system’s improvement. The European Commission appreciated our strengths but also identified our weaknesses, which became the bases to establish some recommendations for our institution.

The most important recommendations of the European Commission regarding the improvement of the HRS4R strategy at the Cracow University of Technology:

  • CUT should develop clear strategies and policies to grow the number of international researchers.
  • It is important to develop strategies that ensure Women are equally represented across all grades in CUT including management and senior leadership positions.
  • CUT needs to develop and implement an Equality and Diversity Policy that addresses equality, gender equality and all aspects of diversity.
  • Consideration should be given to the development and implementation of a formal mentoring system and coaching scheme.
  • CUT should prioritise the filling of the position of a Mediator for the resolution of conflict between staff.
  • Consideration should be given to the development and implementation of a formal flexible working & shorter working hours policy.
  • CUT should ensure that members of the research community (R1-R4) are represented in the development and implementation of the HRS4R strategy. Models that work well tend to have an HRS4R Steering Group and HRS4R Working Group with members of R1, R2, R3
  • CUT needs to identify clear mechanisms and methods to increase the participation of its research community in international collaborations and projects. This should assist with increased mobility and visibility of CUT researchers on the international stage is an issue.
  • The HRS4R logo should be placed on the CUT website home page with a link to the HRS4R web page.
  • CUT should prioritise the translation of the policies that apply to the research community into English and make them available on the CUT website.
  • CUT should continue to review its action plan and develop new actions where appropriate.
